grief

Grief speaks about the permanence of those who are no longer in this world through the objects that were once connected to them.

I began this project as a tribute to my father-in-law shortly after his passing, searching for everyday traces of his presence in the now-empty house. These visits naturally led me to seek out my own father, who had passed away thirty years earlier, in the home where my mother still lives.

Soon I came to realize that I was capturing their natural presence in these spaces that once sheltered them, even though their bodies no longer inhabit them.

The result is a sensory and emotional diary that emerges from the variety of objects and routines they were so attached to, the spectrum of scents, the unexplored corners, the shifting light throughout the spaces and at different times of day, and the subtle tonalities. Altogether, this collection reconstruct these relationships— and also, how these connections become our own.
